You may be aware that yesterday, Wednesday 8th May, protesting students have set up an encampment outside Pontio, in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
As your elected officers, we support our students to exercise their right to free speech and stand behind our student community's efforts to share, discuss, and challenge various perspectives on a range of issues. We have met with the representatives of the student protestors, and it is our commitment to facilitate discussions between the students, university, and the studentsโ union in a safe and productive manner.
We are committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of our entire student community and urge students to engage positively in ensuring that protests are conducted in a manner that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved.
