Category: Students Union Petition
I think it would be beneficial for all students if there were 24/7 study spaces available, not just around the examination seasons. These could be in the library or the specific University blocks. I am aware that keeping a facility open 24/7 will be difficult in terms of money/heating/hiring staff however I believe I may have found a solution to some of these issues. In my old University the library was 24/7 which was extremely helpful for all types of students, especially those (like me) who typically work later in the day. Students were hired to help work in the library, specifically those studying literature, which was brilliant experience for them. This allowed the University to free up money to hire security guards and specific night staff. I think it is extremely important to note that I am not the only student who thinks that having a 24 hour study space is a beneficial thing. I have spoken to numerous students and my fellow course represantatives who have agreed that this would be a good idea. As the University states, it is a student led school with a keen focus on being adaptable for all student types. If the library is not a viable option to keep open, possibly opening up the specific University blocks would be a better idea in terms of funding. If anyone else has any other ideas or views surrounding this topic I would love to hear them, to make this idea more concrete, especially when bringing it to the Student Union.
