Undeb Bangor Response in bold:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns on this. As part of our ongoing democracy review, weโ€™re currently looking at how Undeb Bangor make decisions, and campaigns on the issues that matter to students - including how we best support liberation work moving forward. Currently, this takes the form of the Networks, but has looked very different over the years. It is important that our democratic processes are as simple and effective as possible, so that we can effectively make change, and that's why we have been involving students in discussions, focus groups and surveys in relations to these areas.

No decisions have been made from the democracy review at this stage, but once the Board of Trustees has made a final decision, we will be in further conversations with students as we decide how best to implement these recommendations. If this includes changes to networks, we will ensure students have more streamlined and impactful mechanisms for making change, especially when it comes to liberation groups, based on the insight gathered.

We appreciate your voices and will continue to listen and engage as this work progresses.

Keep our Networks

February  5th I was made aware that the University was getting rid of the networks due to a lack of leads and current leads interactions. At first, I agreed but this all changed after being a part of a meeting yesterday march 25th, 2025 with National Union of Students (NUS). They brought up the concern that more students in certain groups are being discriminated against then ever both politically and day to day.  These groups that are facing the most discrimination are disabled students, LGBT+, racialized, Transgender, and women. We see  this not just happening globally politically, locally but also from the University.  We have a rape and spiking epidemic on our hands.  A Student who got kicked out of Accom for raising concerns pertaining to their disability. To GPโ€™s in  Wales, that will not bridge prescriptions and do not do shared care with those seek private care while waiting the 6-10 years to get a prescription through the NHS. This messes with students coming from the UK let alone international students. This is one issue the NUS wants to help fix. This is not just a matter of someone getting a prescription but lifesaving aid for Transgender people. GPโ€™s and the Welsh government do not allow these practices to take place  is only another determent to everyone especially students.  This is one of many matters the NUS is wanting to aid to promote change so we can have shared care. With doing nothing minority groups suicide rates are only climbing and will continue to do so.  We cannot have the NUS support with out Networks. Without Networks we do not have student support  and certainly not governmental support for marginalized groups. This will alleviate stress by providing community in such precedented times and as a united front against governmental attack and everyday violence against these groups.  We need to stand as a front, and community and most of all we need our voices to be heard to show we are here, and we wonโ€™t just be dismissed. Please sign this petition not just for you  but for everyone to have the same rights and to be heard.

All the best,

Xavier Kirkpatrick
