There are plenty of interesting locations in Gwynedd and Anglessey that are out of walking distance and difficult to reach if you don't have a car due to limited public transport e.g. Penryhn castle and Anglessey sea zoo. I believe these locations would be ideal for cycling to. Unfortunately to my knowledge the only bicycle shop in Bangor is evolution bikes on the outskirts of the city and it does not offer a rent/hire service. That is why I believe it would be very useful if the university offered one.
I believe the bicycles should come with free safety features e.g. helmet, lights, reflectors. Hybrid bicycles I think would make the most sense for their versatility. Perhaps you could pay a little extra for features like e-bikes, rack + panniers or a bicycle trailer. However, it's important to make this service affordable for students.
I believe it's a win-win scenario. It would be a boost for the local economy as it would allow students to reach these areas more readily and it would reduce obesity and car-related problems e.g. congestion.
