Welcome to the Freshwater Conservation Club!
We're so lucky to study between Eryri and Ynys Mon, giving us access to a huge variety of freshwater environments.
Our aim is to empower students to actively contribute to environmental preservation, acquire valuable skills for their futures and discover a passion for freshwater conservation.
There are a huge number of threats to our freshwater environments in the UK and growing public concern. Recognising the job opportunities available in the field, we hope to help our freshwater environments through volunteering whilst also enhancing students' knowledge and skills to gain employment in future.
Freshwater environments are not only vital habitats in themselves but also play a crucial role in influencing marine ecosystems, as everything from our rivers eventually finds its way to the sea. As a project, we hope to organise various events, including river and lake clean ups, as well as activities that allow us to appreciate the beauty of these freshwater ecosystems such as wild swimming.
We hope to collaborate with partner organisations accross North Wales who are actively engaged in conserving these environments, providing students with insights into potential careers, improving their skills and understanding and of course, a fun time!
If you're interested in the aquatic world at all, then this project is for you!
Get actively involved in our clean ups! We'll be visiting local lakes and rivers to carry our litter picks around our aquatic environments.
We're hoping to organise some snokelling events in summer months and water sampling activities, carrying out citizen science by testing our local rivers.
