The Big Give project aims to divert surplus/waste food from students away from the waste stream and back into surplus food for the community. It works with Bangor Cathedral Food Bank to achieve this through the following:
- Collecting surplus food across the year at various points on campus and delivering them to Bangor Food Bank
- Collecting surplus food at the end of the year at various points on campus and delivering them to Bangor Food Bank
- Recruiting volunteers to support by putting together emergency food packages together
Support the Big Give Project in two different ways (possible to do one or both, depending on availability):
1. Volunteer at the Cathedral Food Bank in Bangor every Monday (2-3pm).
The Food Bank requests that any volunteers commit to supporting regularly (every Monday) as far as reasonably possible.
For more infromation on the food bank itself, visit: https://www.bangorfoodbank.org/
2. Collecting student and staff donations at various collection points on campus and delivering them to them.
Food products can be transported on foot depending on volume or by car. Volunteers can use their own cars to do so (and claim money back) or book a Students' Union minibus to do so- the volunteer driver will need a MIDAS (minibus driving) qualification to support in this capacity. Please email thebiggive@undebbangor.com if this is something you hold.
Dates, timings and frequency of collection will depend on the level of donations and we can be flexible arounf volunteer availability.
